Independence & funding

No paid placements, no brand sponsorships — and full disclosure of anything that could change.

A review site that ranks products is only worth reading if you know how it makes money and whether that money bends its verdicts. Here is ours, in plain terms.

#How we’re funded

The Light Review is reader-first and takes no payment from the brands it reviews. We do not run paid advertising or accept brand sponsorships, and no brand can buy a ranking. We hold no ownership stake in, and have no commercial affiliation with, any brand we cover — every product is assessed at arm’s length.

Like many independent publications, we may in future introduce clearly-labelled affiliate links (where we earn a small commission if you buy through us, at no extra cost to you) or reader support. If and when we do, two rules are absolute: it will be disclosed on every page it appears, and it will have zero influence on our rankings or verdicts. A commission we might earn will never buy a better score. If you ever see us break that, hold us to it.

#How we handle products

Where we obtain a device to handle, we buy it or borrow it and return it; accepting a product does not commit us to covering it, covering it positively, or keeping it. Manufacturer relationships are limited to fact-checking specifications — not shaping conclusions.

#Conflicts of interest

Contributors declare any financial interest in a brand we cover, and step back from scoring a device where one exists. We hold no ownership stake in, and take no payment from, any brand in our ranking — every one is scored on the same rubric, at arm’s length. Your trust is our only stake.
